We have two inshore lifeboats. Alan & Margaret, a  B Class Atlantic 75 and the smaller D Class boat Regina Mary.

  Both Lifeboats on Exercise
Alan & Margaret B-793

The Atlantic 75 is a rigid inflatable lifeboat, introduced into the fleet in 1993. The '75' is derived from the length of the boat. In the event of a capsize, a crew member activates
a gas bottle to inflate the righting bag. The lifeboat turns upright in seconds. The twin 60HP engines are inversion proof so they can be restarted after a capsize. The Atlantic can be launched in conditions up to near gale force 7.

The D Class has been the workhorse of the service for over 40 years. Small and highly manoeuvrable, it is ideal for rescues close to shore in fair or moderate conditions. It has a single outboard 40HP engine and can be righted by the crew following a capsize. The design of the D Class continues to evolve since its introduction. The details given are for the latest version which was introduced in 2003.
