The RNLI is currently running a £31,000 fundraising appeal for a new D class lifeboat for Looe station. The boat will be named in memory of local teenager Ollie Naismith who tragically died in a collision in December 2009. A host of events are being organised to raise money for the appeal. For more information see the calendar page.

The Boathouse
The boathouse was designed and built to handle sea surges and Spring Tides which often sweep sea water up into the boathouse.

A Spring Tide at Looe

The Boathouse welcomes educational visits from organised groups. On this occasion Torpoint Brownies visited in 2007 and donated stamps collected over the previous year.

The boathouse is host to numerous events and concerts throughout the year.

Please contact us to arrange a visit.

Looe Lifeboats Hosting 2010 Festival by the Sea
The event is held over 9 and 10 July and there will be a number of events to help raise money for the Ollie Naismith Lifeboat appeal. In conjunction with Looe Boat Owners Association, we will also be resurrecting the craft race on the Sunday, carefully avoiding the final of the soccer world cup. Please contact us for more details or if you would like to enter a raft.

Looe Lifeboats & Regional Lifeguards Summer Rescues

Looe Lifeboats had a busy 2009 summer with 17 launches during the summer period. This compares with 13 launches for the same period last year.

As usual, the launches were dominated with inflatable dinghies and leisure craft with engine problems.

Lifeguards also had a busy summer with 136 incidents in the Caradon area.

Looe lifeboats were involved in 34 shouts in 2009, saving 34 people, either of which rescues took place in darkness. This placed Looe Lifeboats as the 5th most busy in cornwall and 13th for the south west.

This year there have been 6 shouts to date (23rd February)
